Why does Youth Impact serve Ethiopia? Besides being home to Youth Impact’s founder, 63.5 million residents under the age of 24 reside in Ethiopia – that’s almost two-thirds of the country’s population. With such a massive number of young people, and older generations dying out early, Abraham Fiesha and his team felt a strong call to provide guidance and mentorship to a generation without it.

Children are living on the streets in Ethiopia
And, despite recent improvements, Ethiopia remains one of the poorest countries in the world, due in large part to its rapid population growth and the inability for job creation to keep up. The result is droves of youths coming to cities in search of work and success, but ending up on the street, unable to find a job or pay for education. Some aid agencies estimate that more than 600,000 children live on the streets in Ethiopian cities, with 100,000 in Addis Ababa alone.
